Scott County, Minnesota Inmate Search

Law enforcement custody in Scott County, Minnesota, commences with an arrest for alleged criminal activity. An adult apprehended by a peace officer on criminal charges is either taken to the local police headquarters (if further questioning is necessary) or transported directly to the Scott County Jail for pre-trial detention. Booking or custody information for persons detained at the Scott County Jail is available via an inmate search.

Conducting an inmate search in Scott County is as simple as querying the local Sheriff’s Office. This office runs the county’s only jail facility and can answer public-facing questions about the jail’s population.

A Scott County inmate search covers all detainees in the county, but excludes most juveniles, who are primarily held at the Scott County Juvenile Alternative Facility (JAF) in Jordan. State and federal inmates are also left out of the search, as their oversight is managed by the Minnesota Department of Corrections and the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP), respectively.

Beyond the Sheriff’s Office, additional details about a Scott County detainee/inmate can be obtained by contacting the specific arresting agency, which can provide the arrestee’s police report. Two cases in point are the Shakopee and Prior Lake police departments, which enforce laws in the county’s two foremost metropolitan areas.

Inquiries can also be made to the Scott County District Court regarding sentencing or final case dispositions.

How to Find an Inmate in Scott County Jail

The most direct way to find an inmate in the Scott County Jail is by accessing the Sheriff’s Office online Jail Roster.

Another method is to contact the jail facility’s direct phone line at (952) 496-8314. Telephone inquiries are especially handy when a person has been physically detained, but their information has not yet appeared on the Jail Roster.

Finally, one can submit a Jail Data Request to the Sheriff’s Office. This approach is useful for obtaining more detailed or earlier records. For general (public) data requests, the Sheriff provides an Online Data Request Portal. Media requests are processed by phone at (952) 496-8327 during standard business hours or (952) 496-8129 after hours.

The Scott County Jail and Sheriff’s Office are located at 301 Fuller Street South, Shakopee, Minnesota.
